SoCal Voices Newsletter

January 2024

Welcome to the SoCal Voices Newsletter. I'm excited to launch this sister project to the SoCal Voices Podcast! In the newsletter, you'll get episode highlights, behind-the-scenes updates, and insight on places to go, eat, and thrive in Southern California. Let's get to it!

What's on your mind?

The only thing I enjoy more than meeting and learning from the guests featured on SoCal Voices Podcast is connecting with my audience. I LOVE talking with you. One of my goals for 2024 is for us to get to know each other better. To that end, I have a question for you:

What is the single most important thing that you are struggling with right now?

Submit your response here or send me a DM on social media @socalvoices. I truly want to hear from you. Your responses will help me focus on topics that you are most concerned about and book guests who can address the issues most important to you and your life in SoCal.

Fan page fun

This year, I'm looking forward to engaging with more of you on my new fan page where you can record a message for me, ask me a question, or buy one of the perks to help support the show. You can buy a SoCal Shoutout and I'll credit you as a supporter on a future episode, or you can buy a private Zoom call with me and ask me anything. I'll have a few questions for you too!

Episode highlights

The first episode of January 2024 is the 100th episode of SoCal Voices Podcast! I'm humbled and excited to reach this milestone and look forward to many more.

In episode 100, Is DEI Dead? I speak with Jonathan Dumas, an organizational psychologist, diversity expert, and host of the podcast Highly Visible & A Little Misunderstood.

Jonathan shared his insightful perspective on recent declarations that DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) initiatives must die, why action to correct societal inequities so often spark backlash, who really benefits from DEI initiatives, and what diversity, equity, and inclusion look like in the workplace when done right. Listen to the episode and let me know how it resonated with you.

If you ever had your heart set on a certain career then learned you had to change course, you might find some inspiration in the episode featuring Jackie Gutierrez, a sports journalist and founder of the multi-media company Women Kick Balls.

Jackie is a dynamic young woman who figured out how to redirect her passion and live her dream. Check out how she did it.

Go, Eat, Thrive

There is no shortage of places to go, eat, and thrive in Southern California. If you like art, you may enjoy the work of internationally renowned artist Charles Bibbs at Sacred Spaces: The Work and Collection of Charles Bibbs at the Riverside Art Museum, 3425 Mission Inn Avenue, in Downtown Riverside. The exhibition features Bibbs' paintings, drawings, prints and ceramic works, and the works of other artists from Bibbs' personal art collection. Bibbs is admired for his vibrant, thought-provoking work fusing African, African American and Native American themes. If you go, let me know which of his works you enjoyed most.

Where is your favorite place to go in SoCal to renew your spirit, connect with nature, enjoy a great meal or just have fun? Reach out and tell me about your special place, and I might mention you and your favorite spot in a future edition of the newsletter!

Thanks for checking out the first edition of the SoCal Voices Newsletter. Remember to send me a DM on social media @socalvoices, leave a message for me on my fan page, or reach out to me on socalvoices.com.

Until next time,
