April 2024

Hey SoCal Voices fans,

I hope you are enjoying spring and the opportunities this season brings to refresh and renew your mind and spirit!

We welcome spring on SoCal Voices Podcast with two insightful guests. The episode released April 4 features Schelo Doirin Collier. We dive deep into the world of finance and investing, exploring Schelo's journey and the growth of her organization, Black Women Invest.

Schelo shares her inspiring story of how she became an investor at a young age and how that passion led her to create a community of over 14,000 members dedicated to empowering Black women in the realm of finance. From starting as a small Facebook group to hosting events across the country, Schelo's organization is making a significant impact.

We discuss the importance of financial literacy, the wealth gap in society, and how her organization helps Black women navigate these challenges through community support and education. Schelo also gives insights into different investment strategies and shares her favorite approach to investing.

If you're interested in learning more about finance, investing, and building wealth, this episode is a must-listen.

Also happening in April: Donate Life Month! SoCal Voices celebrates with an episode featuring OneLegacy, Southern California's organ, eye, and tissue recovery organization. I spoke with OneLegacy's Public Education and Community Development Specialist Christy Bethel about the organization's mission to save and heal lives.

On the episode, Christy talks about OneLegacy's history of serving families, and how you can support the organization's mission. You can celebrate Donate Life Month by signing up for OneLegacy's Donate Life Run Walk and Family Festival, happening Saturday, April 27. Be sure to check out the episode when it goes live on April 18!

My podcasting journey

I started podcasting as a way to work through my feelings around two impactful events in 2020: the police killing of George Floyd and the COVID pandemic. My background in radio news was helpful as I started podcasting, but I want to tell you about something else I wish I had when I started. It's called the Ultimate Podcasting Pack. Created by Women in Podcasting founder Jennifer Henczel, the Ultimate Podcasting Pack is filled with easy-to-use resources that set you on a clear path as you begin this exciting journey.

If you're thinking about starting a podcast, or if you have a podcast and want to level-up, I encourage you to learn more. Just click on the image below.๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿพ Note: I am an affiliate of Women in Podcasting, so if you purchase the Ultimate Podcasting Pack, I will receive compensation.

Go, Eat, Thrive

Southern California offers many opportunities to appreciate the outdoors. If you like flowers, LAist has a guide to the 2024 Wildflower Super Bloom. It lists everything you need to know to enjoy this season's vast floral vistas responsibly. Go! Enjoy!
